Time management is about improving your personal performance and effectiveness by managing your time wisely in order to achieve set goals – It is not just about managing your time but also managing yourself purposely towards success.
The first rule in managing your time effectively is to set goals daily and prioritize. Create a road map ( or action plan ) towards your goals – If you do not know where you are going, how will you know when you get there or when you have taken a wrong path.
Creating a realistic action plan ( Be clear & specific – Write it down to help you remember ) will enable you to stay focused on what you need to do daily to achieve your goals – Your daily routine will create your future.
Procrastination is one of the major barriers to time management and one of the worse enemies to your success. It can be avoided by Planning & prioritizing goals or objectives :-
- Break larger jobs into smaller, more manageable tasks so you can start a little at a time.
- Maintain focus on your end result by developing a picture of the completed task and how good you will feel.
- Set a time or date you may wish to complete the task or achieve this goal – This will encourage you to get on with it.
Know your strengths and weaknesses especially in team work; Be realistic about how much you can do & Suggest a more suitable person for other roles so that you can leverage your talents and skills more effectively. Be assertive & learn the wisdom of saying ‘No’ to distractions so you can focus on being more productive – Be assured that every small effort you make takes you closer to that exciting end result.
Most importantly, as you strive to achieve your goals, make time for yourself – Have some fun and take a moment each day to be grateful.
